Grandma’s 5-Ingredient Ground Beef Casserole is the ultimate “dump and bake” comfort meal. Using simple pantry staples, it creates a creamy, cheesy base for tender potato cubes and savory ground beef—perfect for a busy weeknight.
Ingredients
- 1–1½ lbs ground beef
- 1 can (10½ oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup
- 1 can (10½ oz) condensed cream of cheddar cheese soup
- 3 cups frozen potato cubes
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, divided
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions:
1. Prep and Brown
Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9×13-inch casserole dish.
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until fully browned. Drain excess grease.
2. Mix the Filling
Transfer cooked beef to a large bowl.
Stir in cream of mushroom soup, cream of cheddar cheese soup, frozen potato cubes, and ½ cup shredded cheddar.
Season with salt and pepper and mix until potatoes are evenly coated.
3. Assemble
Spread the mixture into the prepared casserole dish in an even layer.
Sprinkle the remaining ½ cup of cheddar cheese on top.
4. Bake
Cover tightly with foil and bake 30 minutes.
Remove foil and bake an additional 30 minutes to let the cheese bubble and the potatoes cook through.
Why This Recipe Works:
Double Soup Secret: Using both cream of mushroom and cream of cheddar creates rich, savory flavor without making a separate sauce.
Frozen Potatoes: They hold their shape during baking, giving the casserole a nice, firm texture.
